Miniature Pinscher - Lucy (fostered @ Dogtopia) (mama Mia)
Could this be your new best friend?
4/13/12 - Lucy has been at Dogtopia for a couple of weeks and I must confess that I am a nervous mama type with her kid at camp for the first time. I've called and emailed a few times and I just hope they aren't tired of me yet. :) The first few days sounded a little uncomfortable for all as Lucy was so shy with eveyone. I got an email one morning that said she was claiming the fire truck bed as her personal den and then later in the same day I got another email that said Lucy was running around the room with the other dogs at Dogtopia. Imagine my joy to hear that she is bonding with the employees that work in her play room now and even approaches them for affection. I'm such a proud mama type now. In fact, I occasionally log onto Dogtopia's website to see if I can catch sight of her on their webcam. You can too! /waco But please don't tell my boss! -angela 3/10/12 - Lucy spent several days in the front office this past week. She was nervous, especially at first. She was curious about visitors at our doctor's office style windows and even stood up to see who was on the other side a few times. She never tried to escape. As time slipped away each day she would become more peaceful in her temporary kennel with the office staff. She even nodded off a few times. One day she even agreed to go to lunch with me. She rode in the passenger seat on our short trip to a nearby fast food joint. Lucy is very curious about what's going on and checked out other drivers. When I rolled down my window to place my order I feared she was trying to bolt but she stayed in her seat after I put her back in it. We rode back to FFR and she was a perfect companion. Once we were back at FFR I went ahead and ate my food in the car to see how she would be about it. What a great gal! She didn't even beg. She just sat in the seat and looked around until she was comfortable enough to lay down for a quick rest. I love seeing Lucy open up! - angela 3/5/2012 - Linda unlocked the doors and found Lucy in the middle of the room with a pile of toys. What a character! One of our employees must have forgot to put the lock on Lucy's kennel. She's smart enough to open the latch and let herself out. Normally she will just cower in her kennel and not play with toys but we're making sure she's got a least a couple of them in there at all times. -angela 2/24/2012 - Lucy came to us terrified of people. She had to trust someone at the time though because she had four puppies in tow. All of the puppies have since been adopted and she doesn't know what to do. She has escaped from an adopter's yard and a foster parent's yard. She was on the loose for several months the first time but came back within a few days the last time. She can jump over a six foot fence and will if she is scared. Lucy has bonded with the staff members who look after her and her previous foster mom. I started this past week seeing if she can bond with me. My theory is the more people she bonds with the more she will trust people in general. I have visited her in her kennel where she has even started reaching her paw out to me. She has rolled over so I can rub her belly. She has even let me rub her ears. She loves affection. I took her for a walk outside our building and if she doesn't know where you are taking her, she will almost freeze. I ended up carrying her back into the building to sit on a couch in our lobby. She wanted so badly to go back to her kennel. A couple of days later I took her into one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. I closed the door and she agreed to sit with me. Of course she couldn't take her eyes off of the door. Perhaps she was hoping one of her handlers would come rescue her from this strange woman. I stood up and walked to a toy basket. She didn't seem to know what to do with them. I sat down on an ottoman on the other side of the room and called her. She was dutiful and came when I called her but darted away quickly. She finally sa
